We are here to help
Many people have questions when considering a gift.
Our team members often meet with people who are considering, or have included, a gift in their will. This gives the person time to share their story, discuss their gift, and ensure RMHC WA communicates with them the way they would like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Your gift, your decision, your timeline, and your privacy matters. Your decision to leave a gift to RMHC WA is very personal, and we encourage you to discuss your will with your family.
The following FAQs may be of use to you in your decision-making.
What kinds of gifts can I leave in my Will?
- A gift of cash, either through a percentage (residual) of your estate or an exact amount (pecuniary).
- Property
- Shares
- Other assets, such as jewellery
- RMHC WA can also be nominated as the beneficiary of a Superannuation Fund. We advise you speak to your super fund and/or solicitor to ensure this is distributed as per your wishes.
Will my gift stay in Western Australia?
Yes, while RMHC WA is part of a national and global network, we are an independent organisation. All gifts will remain in Western Australia and be used in our mission.
What will my gift to RMHC WA be used for?
Your gift will help keep families together during the most difficult times in their lives.
Your gift will provide supported accommodation for families who are required to travel to Perth Children’s Hospital for medical care, as well as wraparound programs to support the learning and wellbeing of sick or injured children and their families – 24/7, 365 days a year.
I want to my gift to be used in a specific way. Is that possible?
Your gift can be as individual as you are, and we want to honour you and your intentions in an appropriate way.
We urge you to contact Susan, who assists in donor care, to discuss your intentions before making a gift that is restricted to a specific use. Susan can support you, and your solicitor, in creating a gift that RMHC WA can use in the way you intend.
What do I need to write my Will?
Using a solicitor to help prepare or update you will is important. Your solicitor will work with you to ensure the causes and people you love benefit from your Will as you wish. A current, valid will is a gift to your loved ones as it makes your wishes clear and will help minimise the risk of disputes about your intentions.
If you choose to make a gift to RMHC WA, we have wording that we recommend including in your will. You can click here to print this key information.
Do I need to tell RMHC WA if I leave a gift in my Will?
You are not obligated to inform us of your decision, but we encourage you to do so. We want to make sure we have a full understanding of your wishes, so when the time comes to activate your gift, the RMHC WA staff at the time will have all the information they need to see your gift used to its full potential.
What is a residual gift?
A residual gift is a percentage of your estate, after all your other wishes have been fulfilled and expenses met. The value of a residual gift will rise with inflation, so it will be worth as much to us tomorrow as it is today. As this kind of gift doesn’t decrease with inflation, it is the most efficient way to support RMHC WA.
What is a pecuniary gift?
A pecuniary gift is a specific dollar value set at the time you make your will. The value of pecuniary gift will decrease over time, as inflation and the cost of living increases over time.
